Dreaming of blush and violet – Bedroom makeover with Just Bedding

I dream of painting and then I paint my dream

Vincent Van Gogh

Life as a “housewife” is hectic and crazy, but it also involves a lot of love, and personal growth. While I consider myself a creative, the idea of styling my house has always seemed like an impossible task to me. Affording things, matching things, DECIDING on things. Daunting to say the least. I’ve always been torn between styles and themes, unable to find a starting point. I mean LOOK at this bedroom.

Sharing my adventures through blogging and Instagram has lead to some lovely connections and experiences. Enter Claudia from Just Bedding and her wonderful array of bedroom linen! With Claudia’s help I decided to pick my favourite quilt and use it as a focus for my colour palate and bedroom styling.

Meet the Alexa, KAS.

I fell in LOVE with this gorgeous quilt cover with its textured look and beautiful detailing in muted silver, blue, violet, blush, pink and mint. It was gorgeous but cozy. It said “Snug”, and that was it. I received my order within a short few days.

I liked that this quilt cover would coexist happily alongside a number of colours but it still gave me direction. I imagined a sleepy world of blush tones, natural textures and warmth.

In my Pinterest travels I came across a companionable Taubman’s wall colour called “Violet Verbena” (above). I’ve always been a blue girl but this colour stayed with me. It was perfect for my dreamy little snuggery.

BTW. washing walls sucks, and housewifing is sexy AF.

Next was the task of finding a headboard. Pinterest gave me lofty ideas for making my own fabric or natural wood headboards, and with this an unrealistic expectation that “DIY” means “cheap”. To use the perfect Aussie-ism, “Yeah-Nah”. With the price of the materials required to make the types of bed heads I liked, it was just cheaper to buy one. And then there was Ikea.

The Brimnes headboard from Ikea, installed by my sexy husband, is a rather awesome piece of furniture. I LOVE the storage at the sides, which is so handy for those messy bits and bobs that often clutter up bedsides and dressing tables. I’m notorious for stacking ALL THE THINGS on my bedside, so this is practical and matches our bedsides.

So. Would you like to see the finished room? 😀

How good does the Alexa quilt look?!

The bed head with side storage is SO useful.

This nifty print from Target marries in brilliantly with my chosen colour palate. These cushions also from Target, the vase a very cheap find at Kmart.

I couldn’t for the life of me find a print to partner with the feathers print, so I decided to make my own. I experimented with watercolour and this was fun but at the end of the day the work looked very amature. So I decided some text might pair happily: “You and Me”, which is something my husband and I have always said to each other and always means something special to us. Printed and framed myself, it was an affordable addition to my decor.

I love a lush maiden-hair fern, don’t you? The trinket tray and quote card are Kikki-K, which is a bit of an addiction for me these days. Their “Life is Wonderful” range is just gorgeous.

On the other side of the room is a scene that sparks joy. It used to be an oversized tv and just MESS. Now it is light, bright and peaceful. I continued to echo the colour palate from the Alexa quilt with blush and pink, with some metallic thrown in there to add a bit of glamour.

The super cheap Kmart occasional chair is the bomb. So simple and stylish.

Mounting the mirror involved the most maths I’ve used since Math1020. This was harder.

How CUTE is this little “Freckle Face” Hypoestes mix? Just perfect.

And what’s a comfy snug on a lazy morning without a pot of tea? Birthday Tea from High Tea with Harriet. But more about the tea later!
